Shropshire Blue Receives Top Regional Title at the Great Taste Golden Fork Awards 2015

Colston Bassett Dairy has received a top regional title for their Shropshire Blue at the 2015 Great Taste Golden Fork Awards. This outstanding cheese was crowned the Best Speciality product from East Anglia & Midlands. The Awards were held last night at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, London.

Since the Great Taste Award winners were revealed at the beginning of August, we have all been waiting for the announcement of who has risen to the next stage and triumphed at this year’s Great Taste Golden Fork Awards. From the 130 products that received the top accolade of three gold stars at the Great Taste Awards 2015, a Top 50 list was selected. The Golden Fork trophy winners were chosen from the Top 50, along with one Supreme Champion.

Billy Kevan, Dairy Manager at Colston Bassett Dairy commented: “We are overjoyed about our Great Taste success this year – to make it onto the Top 50 list is a huge achievement in itself, but being named Best Speciality product from East Anglia & Midlands is absolutely outstanding! Colston Bassett cheeses are carefully produced using traditional hand-made methods. Winning a top regional title highlights the supreme quality and taste of our Shropshire Blue.”

It really has been an unstoppable year for the Nottinghamshire Dairy. At the International Cheese Awards 2015, Colston Bassett Stilton was awarded Best Stilton and Reserve Champion UK, and was also triumphant at the Great Taste Awards 2015, receiving two gold stars.

Organised by the Guild of Fine Food, the Great Taste Awards are the acknowledged benchmark for the speciality food and drink sector. Colston Bassett Shropshire Blue was described by the Award judges as having a buttery paste-like texture that balances with a well-distributed sharpness and acidity – a “very munchable” accompaniment to beer, crisp white wine, or dry cider.
