Guild of Fine Food - Best Brands Survey

For the fourth time in five years, Colston Bassett Stilton has been named as one of the top three best British cheese brands available in speciality food shops nationwide. The 2017/18 second place announcement followed the annual ‘Best Brands’ survey carried out by the prestigious Guild of Fine Food.

The results are compiled from thousands of postal, email and telephone responses provided by the country’s leading delis, cheesemongers, farm shops and high-end foods halls. It is the seventh year that the survey has been carried out, identifying the best-performing products in a dozen core categories – covering everything from biscuits to tea. Nottinghamshire is, without doubt, a county with a huge love of cheese. It’s an indisputable fact according to the results of a recent haul of foodie awards. The county also provides residents and visitors with one of the best cheese counters – The Cheese Shop in Nottingham, which was recently awarded third place in the World Cheese Awards, also run by the Guild of Fine Food.

Billy Kevan, Dairy Manager comments; “Stilton’s PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) ensures that this special British blue cheese must be made in one of three counties – Derbyshire, Leicestershire and of course, Nottinghamshire. I believe that our dairy’s century long association with the county has helped to create a really, strong community of cheese lovers. As a cheesemaker this is something to really celebrate!

To consistently appear in the top three British Cheese brands is testament to my great team. The fact that these awards are voted for by professional retailers all over the UK, proves that our Stilton has secured a place in people’s hearts. With such a fantastic variety of British cheeses available – it’s a great achievement for everyone involved.”
