Colston Bassett Dairy collected two gold medals at this year’s World Cheese Awards on Friday 14th November.
An intensive day’s judging took place at Olympia London alongside 2014’s BBC Good Food Show. There were more than 2,700 entries from all around the globe including cheese from Brazil and New Zealand. A panel of almost 250 cheese experts took part in the process of grading the cheeses and awarding medals accordingly.
Colston Bassett Dairy finish the year on yet another high with both Stilton and Shropshire Blue collecting gold medals at the last of the big cheese competitions for 2014. These latest achievements are two in a long line of awards that confirm the superiority of the world famous blue cheeses produced by the 101 year old farming co-operative.
Billy Kevan comments; “At the World Cheese Awards our cheese is competing in conjunction with some very well respected Continental cheesemakers that have centuries of experience behind them. The competition is exciting because as well as the established names there are innovative new launches; sometimes from unlikely places. The fact that so many different cheeses are entered demonstrates how important the recognition of these awards is to producers. Organised by the Guild of Fine Food there is an expectation that the quality of entries will be consistently high and we’re delighted to have been awarded two golds.”
