Colston Bassett is celebrating extending its impressive award collection, taking the top spot in four categories at the Great Yorkshire Show Cheese & Dairy Awards which were announced on Wednesday 10th July 2019.
With a smooth and creamy, mellow flavour that balances sweet and savoury notes, the King of the cheeseboard, Colston Bassett Stilton took first in the Best Whole Blue Cheese and Best Blue categories.
Stilton’s younger cousin, the distinctive Shropshire Blue, with its striking orange body, delicately sweet flavour and smooth texture took the prize for Best Blue (not Stilton) and was the cream of the crop in the Specialist Cheesemakers Section.
The annual three-day celebration of farming and the countryside has hosted the prestigious cheese awards for more than 160 years, attracting entries from the country’s leading dairies as they bid to take home the top titles.
One of Nottinghamshire’s most revered co-operative dairies, Colston Bassett has been producing premium PDO Stilton and Shropshire Blue for over 100 years, taking pride in using traditional cheesemaking methods. It’s this attention to detail that repeatedly sets it apart.
Billy Kevan, Dairy Manager comments; “The Great Yorkshire Show is an important date in the agricultural calendar. It’s a wonderful celebration of all aspects of British farming so we’re thrilled to receive more awards this year. We pride ourselves on the quality of our Stilton and Blue cheese and to be continually recognised at such a prestigious competition is a testament to the passion and high quality that the Dairy upholds.”
