Colston Bassett has ended a successful centenary year – with a Supergold and gold award at the 2013 World Cheese Awards. The dairy’s famous Stilton was one of just 58 cheeses that received a Supergold stamp from industry experts at this year’s event – a fantastic achievement as over 2500 international cheeses entered. Colston Bassett Shropshire Blue was also recognised for its high quality and great taste with a gold award.
The judging took place at the BBC Good Food Show, NEC, Birmingham on Wednesday 27th November. Over 200 experts from the cheese industry; producers, retailers, writers, chefs and buyers spent the day tasting entries in order to name the award-winners, Supergold cheeses and the final World Champion.
Billy Kevan, Dairy Manager at Colston Bassett Dairy commented; “It is excellent to be recognised in the top bracket of international cheeses – especially in our centenary year. The World Cheese Awards are a prestigious event and we are delighted that Colston Bassett Stilton has been awarded a Supergold. We hope that our traditional cheesemaking methods and using milk from our farmer members – ensures that we are producing the highest quality cheese”.
